WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL

Words.

What means more than words?

As a writer, each word is the ingredient that fills up my pages. Words as simple as they are, have the ability to make or break a person. Words are sharp – often sharper than a knife. Words, are not to be taken lightly. I have learnt from experience. Because as someone who loves words, I know that it can be used as a tool and a weapon. Even I have the ability to hurt others with words. Those close to me often become victim my verbal diarrhea. The words that I choose to use without thinking because all I care about is my own opinion. Selfish. That’s what I would call it.

Why can’t we be kinder?
Why can’t we think before we speak?
Why can’t we withhold judgment before knowing the truth?
Why can’t we just accept that we aren’t always right?

Very often, we speak things that hurt, degrade and pull people apart. The irony is that you don’t always know what the other person is going through. You are not the witness of their day-to-day routines. You don’t see their highs and lows, their successes and struggles.

It’s human nature to judge others, isn’t it?

Not true. We have the ability to control that. We can decide what to say.

All I ask, and can ever hope for is for us to just give some thought before letting strings of word vomit slip pass our lips. Don’t let words become the two-edged sword that causes fights and breakdown of relationships. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes before you decide to go batshit crazy on them.

When you have nothing good to say, you’re better off saying nothing at all.

After all, when words are said, you can’t take them back.  There’s no 30-day return policy like those from H&M.
